Kings County - Peter Haley, a former Sussex resident, hopes his song Waiting will both honour and support Canadian military personnel and their families.

While the lyrics of the ballad honour those who serve and their families, the support comes form the decision of Haley and singer Basia Lyjak to donate all download fees to WoundedWarriors.ca.

The charity, established in 2006, provides support to all Canadian Forces members who have been wounded, at the outset of their healing process.

Waiting tells the story of a mother and children anxiously awaiting the safe return of husband and father. The video features cut-ins and cut-aways to her young song and daughter at bedtime as they long for their father, a member of the Canadian military.

"While we are rightly focused on our troops, we often forget the parallel hardships their loved ones are going through," said songwriter Haley.

"My grandfather fought (in the Second World War) and my grandmother frequently talked about the stress on her and the family."

Haley, along with producers Dave Barker and Tony Daniels and singer Basia Lyjak, spent more than six months creating and fine-tuning the finished product.

Lyjak, known as a "rocker chick" delivers the song in a style that Haley described as both "melodic and gut-wrenching."

Waiting can be downloaded for $0.99 at iTunes. The video, meanwhile, can be previewed on YouTube.
